Repost from blackfashion featuring #SRC x #StyleOnAMile
1968 Tee from the #DaysOfOldCollection
Black fists in air, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, in protest, gave a human rights salute after winning the gold and bronze medals in
the 200 meter race at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico. Heads held down while the “Star Spangled Banner” played, they donned
Olympic Project Human Rights badges, black socks to represent black poverty, Smith wrapped in a black scarf to represent black
pride, Carlos with an unzipped tracksuit to represent for the blue collar workers, and both wore a necklace of beads to represent
those who were lynched, hung and tarred. Both athletes were expelled from the Games.
